Jacked from the Flist : Friday Five
1. What was the last book you read, and what is your opinion of it?
The last book I finished was The Slap by Christos Tsiolkas. It’s kind of amazing, though there’s quite a bit of racism and man-focused sex that didn’t bother me quite so much because it felt true to the characters, but could understandably turn some folks off. It’s multi-viewpoint, which is a favorite of mine and the plot is pretty tight for almost the entire book (the last few chapters are a bit more rambly, but I didn’t mind, because they feature two of the best characters). But yeah, highly recommended, especially if you’ve burned through everything by Laura Lippman and Kate Atkinson (like I almost have). I read it's gonna be a mini-series soon too.

2. What was the last movie you saw, and what is your opinion of it?
Dinner for Schmucks. Yeah, I don’t know why either.

3. What was the last TV show you saw, and what is your opinion of it?
Top Chef: Just Desserts. I don’t watch a lot of reality TV, but cooking competitions are my favorite “I don’t feel like thinking tonight so I’m gonna turn this on and have a glass of wine” type viewing. I like this one especially because A: DESSERTS. So much sugary goodness. And B: I’d like to fuck/marry/kill Johnny Iuzzini.

4. What was the last album you bought / downloaded, and what is your opinion of it?
I’m With You by The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Two Thumbs Up.

5. What was the last meal you cooked, and how did it turn out?
I made a chickpea, spinach, tomato salad that was pretty damn good. It was one of those I’m broke, lets see what’s in the kitchen kind of meals that I ate on for two days straight.

I'm starting to remember why I used to cook so much. I usually get better results at home than I do eating out.

That book can be tough to read at times, but I couldn't put it down.
